Abstract:
Although economic analysis of insurgencies and civil wars has gained interest since the 1960s, we do not have a history of economic thought on the subject. The story we propose interprets the evolution of this literature in terms of three positions taken by economists: with respect to the status quo, in relation to the professionalization of the field, and towards other disciplines that study political violence.
